Hi, Kris:

I was with the group of students that visited your garden with Shaina Gates. Thank you for your hospitality! Your garden inspired me. I look forward to passing by your house in the future and seeing the outcome of your courtyard project.

I’ve attached two photos that I took in your yard with my cell phone. Not great resolution, but I thought you might enjoy seeing them.

Thank you,

Maryka

On behalf of the Garden of Sustenance I am delighted to have the honor of being part of the conversation of contemporary art, meditative art, nature, paths, other artists, containers, and systems.  I recently responded “yes” to an inquiry, if I might host the students of Shaina Gates’ Contemporary Art class from the local Great Bay Community College.  I’m glad I did!  Thank you for your interest, outreach, and keen observations.

Cheers!  Kris Lanzer, artist

Hooray for the swallowtail caterpillar! I found him today when cutting back the flowers to encourage more ferny growth for the cats. to eat as recommended by dear friend and artistgardner butterfly momma Heather in Asheville. Last year I counted nine swallowtail cats. on the bronze fennel!

Also today, A neighbor released the monarch butterflies that she was fostering in her house. I’m still looking for signs of them in the garden… last week I counted seven monarch cats., but have lost their whereabouts.

Monarch butterflies and caterpillars are in the neighborhood. I like to think they’ve flown up from heather’s garden in Asheville, NC. Here are a couple of monarchs on butterfly weed in garden of sustenance. The little nstar is in the caring hands of neighbor Diane. The big caterpillar showed up for her on a butterfly weed from today’s trip to the garden center.

I am fortunate to have more assistance in the garden this week. This time, we weeded to reestablish the garden/driveway edge, and harvested the rest of the purple peas. When cutting back the pea vines and tendrils, we found this giant aromatic volunteer dill plant.
